You know what’s cool? Our new bulletin board out front! No more random advertisements for crystal yoga healing stapled to the front of the building. From now on, everything will be nice and neat in our bulletin cabinet. Have something you’d like to post? Bring it to the bartender. Things to keep in mind: This is for events, with a defined ending date. No huge posters, no classifieds, nothing political.

You know what else is cool? Our new ad on Funny 95.5 – our favorite new all-comedy radio station.

Notice something new in the dining room? That is not a wall specter, providing you with draft information – no – it is something far better. We are now able to keep the main dining room well-informed on what exactly is pouring. Though thirsty patrons have long browsed our artfully presented libations bible, handily waiting at every table – our draft list changes too often to “book it”. My overly-elaborate, but awesome solution was installing an LED (read: silent) projector that the bar can update on-the-fly.

You’re welcome.

In other news, you killed Pliny the Younger more than TWICE as quickly as last year (per keg). Well done. Let’s do it again next year.

1) Have any left

2) Get our keg before opening

Last year, our (full 15.5 gallon) keg lasted 4 hours, 22 minutes. This year it may go quicker. As of 2:24, it hasn’t arrived yet – and once it does, it will need to sit for an hour (ish) before we open it, because we aren’t going to waste half the keg to foam. Please do not call regarding Younger. Any updates will be posted on facebook:

The five most frequent questions I’ve been getting these days:
1) You’re awesome, and by awesome, I mean rad. How is it that you radiate awesomeness in a 6.2 foot radius?
a) Thanks, I’m humbled. Drinking and brewing craft beer.

2) When is Pliny the Younger coming out?
a) Russian River is releasing it this weekend. I will be getting my keg Next Friday (the 10th) – last year, it lasted 4 hours. If you’d like some, come early. No amount of knocking, begging, or pleading (or bribing) will get you in any earlier.

3) How’s 8-Bit Brewing Company coming along?
a) I’ve acquired some big pieces of hardware from Devil’s Canyon Brewing – the glycol unit and the steam boiler. Want to read more about that adventure? Facebook.

4) Hey, there are new things on the menu!!!
a) Yep! The Dehart is our new chicken and brie sandwich on sourdough. It’s in honor of our most bestest BFFs ever, living it up in the South Bay. Then, we are bringing the bacon wrapped meatloaf back by popular demand. If you’ve been with us long enough to remember the McClosky on Rye – you’ll remember this one, but it’s not a sandwich, it’s a platter, and it has bacon. For more details, head to facebook or www.barleynhops.com and check out the full menu.

5) SUPERBOWL WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
a) Yep. It will be on. Yep, we have the best wings known to man. Yep, we have the best beer known to man. Yep, our bar is small, claim your spot early.

Lastly, if you have a dog, please keep Mr. Woofums off the bench on the deck – we just reupholstered it, and we don’t want it getting torn up. We love doggies almost as much as kittens, but neither will be allowed on the porch if we keep having to procure puppy repairs.

12-29-2011

Ring in the New Year at Barley and Hops Tavern! Unless you hate hand-made food, live music, and the best beer selection around. In which case we’d prefer it if you went elsewhere. We have no time for your nonsense…

We’ll be tapping our keg of Moonlight Brewing’s Toast, which is toasty. And good for toasts. See what he did there? In addition, we’re bringing back our crab cakes, which are pretty much just tons of fresh Dungeness crab, without the tons of filler many places use. Places that hate crab. In addition, our Cuban sandwich is making a triumphant holiday return due to improving American-Cuban sandwich relations; we’re even putting it on a sourdough baguette in a bipartisan maneuver.

The Andy T. Band features your Tavernkeep’s father, Andy T, and several legendary legends of the Blues, which I’m not mentioning, because my pub is small, and I don’t have room for the veritable hordes of music lovers that would surely stampede the Tavern, should their names be mentioned in print. Suffice to say, it will be a great show. They’re going on at 7-ish till whenever o’clock.

Thanks to all of our regulars, occasionals, and even one-timers for such a fantastic 2011! We look forward to the best year ever with our new brewery (sometime in late summer), and hope that all of you have some great 2011 Barley and Hops Memories – we know we do.

Cheers!
Noah and Mirjam
